review 1: This book is not for the weak-hearted or the weak-minded. It is very well written and the plot flows from one page to the next seamlessly. It is like an episode of Dateline or Law and Order. You want to keep going to find out what is happening next to Lana, Tink, Sergio and Daniel. You are wondering in the first half of the book if she is going to survive or what will be left of her. In the second half of the book, you wonder if she did survive as much as she thinks she has. Knowing that this is based on actual events you know that there is someone reliving their nightmares to bring you this story. The author is careful to keep real identities from the reader by not giving physical descriptions of her characters. This allows the reader the opportunity to make their own con... moreclusions and monsters in this story. It is definitely a mind blowing read. It leaves on a cliffhanger so the reader is left to reach for the next book to see the ending. This is not a fairy tale or a happily ever after. I truly enjoyed this book for exactly what it is.
review 2: I'm really siked about this book. FINALLY dark disturbing content! I knew I was going to like her from her 1st line in her dedication, "To my twat waffle...." lol Ok so that part wasn't dark but it made me connect with Kristin instantly. Anyway the 1st part of the book had my heart fluttering at times and not because it was mushy. NO, because I'm a sadistic sick individual. Its been awhile sense a book could actually have a warning and own it. Lana's Awakening succeeded. This is a short book and I flew through it. With that said it left many unanswered questions. I couldn't help wanting to learn a bit more about Lana pre-capitive. I also felt the 1st part was rushed. It was getting super brutal then it ended abruptly only to fast forward to part 2 (weeks later). I think the details of what happened in those weeks prior could have helped me understand the transition of her personality better. Perhaps adding in more scenes, even if they weren't based on true events, showing glimpses of Lana "awakening" (so to speak) would have made the 2nd part more believable/relatable. I guess in a nutshell I needed a bit more character and plot development. I understand some of this was based on actual events and I in no way want to come off as disrespectful or lacking empathy. I would never wish this on anybody. In fact I wish it were all fiction. It would be easier to stomach. And much easier to write a review. I'm fascinated that Kristin was able to write this story (whether it is hers or someone she knows) it's crazy horrific yet absolutely intriguing. I'm aware that another book is to follow. SUPER excited to see if it fills in the gaps for me. I feel like this book has just scratched the surface of a MAJOR mindfuck to come. Can NOT wait to see what transpires between Sergio, Lana, and Tinks. Tinks, Tinks, Tinks...... he is such a mystery. Seriously I have a feeling his involvement in everything that has transpired so far goes soooo much deeper. Why did he do what he did??? I know I'm being vague. You'll have to read it and find out for yourself. 4 stars because although I felt like it lacked some, I'm rolling with my gut that the next installment will do it justice. less

I'm sorry that this was based on true events but from part 1 to part 2 it was so abrupt.
