review 1: I {heart} this book. A friend of mine had said that she read this book and it reminded her of me. She has a tendency to read sob-stories, so I avoided it like the plague. Then I was cast in a little national show called Listen To Your Mother with Kyran Pittman and I thought, "Surely the Listen To Your Mother people wouldn't cast an emo-wreck for this show" and I decided to read it. Kyran is so honest and simple and it was a little like reading a long-lost sister's diary. Her words are fun, and her stories are completely relatable. And when I got to actually MEET her and take pictures of her and razz her kid because it was just his birthday and I convinced him that I baked brownies just for him, she was just as down-to-earth and sweet as I imagined her to be. Read ... moreit. Read it now. It's a lazy, feel-good read and you'll be so glad you read it. You're welcome.
review 2: Another easy read consumed in the wee small hours when sleep was elusive. While titled a memoir this reads much more like a collection of essays (not a bad thing, just a different thing to me) and I should drop half a star for the TMI chapters. But I did find myself giggling and trying very hard not to laugh out loud more than once and really, don't we need to laugh more? I particularly enjoyed the part where she, lone female in a house of fart loving, toilet seat leaving up group of males, pretends to be Jane Goodall observing a troop of mountain gorillas and dictates field notes to herself. Granted, it was about 2 AM when I was reading this part on day three of my most recent insomnia bender so maybe I was a little punchy but I wish I had thought of that back in the days when I fantasized about having my own personal tranquilizer dart gun a'la Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom. Accessorizing my apron with a cool holster. One year I asked for one for every possible gift giving holiday of the year from Valentine's Day right on through Christmas but my husband put me off with lame excuses like they were not available in your average retail establishments, even in Wyoming where even the local drug store sold fire arms. I love my kids but there were days ... no naps, whining, fighting kids, back sass? All easily remedied with a couple of well placed tranquilizer darts. Not all chapters were funny and not all resonated with me - though I mostly loved her voice I really can't identify with some of her life choices. I did appreciate the laughs and some of her tender insights into parenting and marriage, forgiveness and acceptance. less

Loved when she compared raising her boys to Jane Goodall and the chimps. Some very funny parts

Laugh out load and sometimes too close to home about child rearing. Great read.
