review 1: I read this book a few Summers ago and I have just uncovered I from the back of my bookshelf. This was my most prized book as a 14 y/o it had everything I could ever want - A crazy gal to relate to, a hot guy, a fairy Godbrother, a band, and Glastonbury. This book sparked off so many dreams about Glasto for me as well as being a brilliant read. I am currently forcing my 14 y/o sister to read this book currently, maybe she wont appreciate it as much as I do but that's fine I got enough appreciation for the both of us!
review 2: Stop! Mum - do NOT buy this book for your teenage daughter. If you are aged between 9 1/4 and 10 1/2 and your folks moved out from Muswell Hill to Bumfuk, Hobbitshire so you could play ponies this might be your thing. Loads of the reviews
... more are by parents who probably love this but you need to know that Lauren Lavender (prolly not her real name - who were Kennicky anyways?)comes across as that aunty that thinks she's still cool *cringe* and tries to relate to you. She's got characters saying "dude" and "chillax" and sh*t like that and it just sounds horribly wrong. You can tell she doesn't have kids and things were different in her day. First off there's this girl who has a band - she's like 14 but still has a Forever Friends duvet cover and Care Bear curtains - like yeah! whatever. It kind of feels like a Tracey Beaker rip off but there's loads of references put in it to make adult readers smile like film theme tune writers and what not. Its like its made to be read to a child and then there's something in it for the Hipster mum reading it to little Hermione to enjoy too. I realised also its as if like that Lauren has got this inner child and just wanted to dick about writing about her own fantasy (come back to that). There's this one bit when Candy Caine(I know my names bad but please p*ss off) skips class and she puts on her head phones and starts doing this Mission Impossible thing down the street like a freak - like yeah I do that all the time.So its f*ckin unreal enough and then this fairy (no - that would've been cool but no - he's got wings and can turn himself into tampon or whatever he likes) turns up about five chapters in and you think sh*t this is just like my little sis's Rainbow Magic books. less
