review 1: I listened to the Audible version.I love this type of story. Born Free, We bought a Zoo, etc. This true story of Lawrence's love for animals had me from the first sentence. The title is also perfect. I enjoyed his wife, employee's, and the multiple local tribes. It is a "feel good" book where a special man tackles a seemingly impossible project and through many trials makes it work. I was fascinated by the personalities of the elephants.
review 2: This book by Lawrence Anthony describes his work at the Thula Thula reserve in Zululand. He accepted a herd of elephants that had escaped another park, and made them at home in Thula Thula. The highlight of the book is his interactions with the elephants. Although the book title may imply some "spiritual" connectio... moren, the basis of the relationship was mostly making them comfortable with his presence. However, a number of instances are given where the animals seem to anticipate his movements. More recently, it is claimed that the elephants returned to the lodge when he died. less
