review 1: I was at UVa the same time as Liz, and I was compelled to read the novel. I am so glad I did; her story is very important, and I discussed the topic with both of my children who are young adults (one is out of college, the other is a current college student) to process her experience. I actually didn't like her writing style or how she told her story at all (just a personal preference), but I respect her for telling the story, and I hope she has found some peace in telling it. I am a college counselor, and although Liz's experience occurred in the 80s, date rape and violence towards women are major focuses in the college world right now. I just hope the higher ed community can get it right which UVa did not in Liz's case--not just for young women who are raped or experi... moreence violence but also for those young men who might be wrongfully accused of same; where alcohol or any other substances are involved, much gray area exists. This is an incredibly sensitive and timely topic.
review 2: I really enjoyed this book, her first. The author was raped as a college freshman at a frat house and due to a series of events(perhaps a coverup by the school), no charges were filed. Many years later, her rapist, who is then in AA and trying to make amends, sends her a letter apologizing for having harmed her. This story is very well-written and covers some of the legal aspects of the case. It might be good for book clubs as people could be divided over how Seccuro deals with this new information. less

A tragic, yet inspiring story of the author's experience of rape.
