review 1: This book is painful. It is so poorly written and structured. The guy is a nut job; thank heavens that he is now on the side of Not promoting violence and not being a so called extremist. He is a total attention seeker. This volume has reinforced my view that extremism has nothing to do with religion or race or creed or ideology but with personality. This man would have been an extremist regardless of his religion and all the experiences that he describes. I went through identity crisis (plural) as well and was the odd one out and was subjected to racism as a minority in the west, of similar background and religion to him, I might add, but I did not go nuts. He is just nuts. I guess it's worth to read to understand nuts in the 21st century.
review 2: This
... more was a very interesting book that sheds a lot of light on the difference between Islam and Islamism. It takes you on a journey of a young mans life that had to grow up with racism, bigotry, and violence and how this led him to join a terrorist organization. I highly recommend this book especially when Muslims are just grouped together as one violent religious organization by many in the West. It helps you understand the beginning of this violent trend, in how it began with the failure of western policies regarding the east and how it led to resentment and hatred from those who felt unimportant and taken advantage of by those in power. This book also delves into the reaction of our current policies like drone strikes, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the killing of Osama Bin Laden. But part I liked the best is the part were the author tells of his imprisonment in Egypt and the torture that he witnessed and endured, and how the West's support of these violent regimes like Lybia and Egypt that torture and kill their own people have hurt our reputation in the East.,eeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrre rkjds,m less
