review 1: I bought this book because I wanted to learn more about family/parents living with a a person with bi-polar and was disappointed. I ended up skimming the second half of the book because it was about the writer and not her son who had the disorder. She wrote about some of her son's episodes but I felt like it wasn't enough. It was annoying that I felt like she was plugging her own writing towards the end. I'm moving on to something else. I feel a little sorry for her other son, the ignored one, and her husband as well.
review 2: Well, maybe coming from a Psychology background didn't help me liking this book. But actually I think the reason I didn't enjoy it is because she still has a lot of anger and hatred even after all these years and she puts a lot of blame
... more on others. He had a mental illness-and a serious one, it is not the girlfriend's fault, or her husbands fault. Also a sad read because even though she says she is Jewish, she doesn't believe in God, Heaven, or Hell so now her son just doesn't exist. I guess I was looking for more of Psychology read, not a 'wo is me' read. less
