review 1: The Philosopher and the Wolf was not what I'd hoped, and that it took me so long to get through is testament to that. When I picked it up, I thought I was in for something akin to The Daily Coyote, which I loved. Parts of it were like that, and those parts that focused on Brenin and what living with a wolf looks like were excellent, and I zipped through them. But I'd say 50% of this book is not about Brenin. It's about philosophy. There are entire chapters that are just swathes of misanthropist, self-loathing philosophy, and that make for dreary reading. It's hard to feel for a narrator who so obviously hates himself, or hated himself during the decade or so that he's recounting.

... morehe moment (not the football team) and found this in my library. It's not a bad book about a guy (he's a philosopher) and his big wolf. I enjoyed the book at first but became quickly bored of the "Who's got the biggest dick/wolf/dog" competition crap that turned up every now and again. Ohhhhh, you've got a big wolf/dog/dick, who gives a fuck?Is this a review? less
