review 1: Part memoir, part meditation on the meaning of life, this tale of one philosopher's life with a wolf makes fascinating reading. Rowlands uses the experiences he has with his wolf to introduce key topics in philosophy - around ethics, meaning and what it means to be human - while keeping the entertaining anecdotes coming. It is a warts and all memoir where Rowlads doesn't pull any punches in his assessment of himself and many of the jokes are at his own expense. Throughout the book his love of his wolf (and other dogs) and animals shows through. Recommended for animal lovers, dog lovers, and those interested in the big topics of life (though if you are a runner then his other book, "Running with the Pack" is even better).
review 2: My neighbours gave me this boo
... morek for my birthday a few years ago. I started reading through it but ended up in the closet drawer. I picked it up again to read during my flight to Athens where I was to run the 2013 Classic Marathon. This book describes the author's life experiences with his trusted wolf-dog and friend Brenin. The author--being a young struggling university philosophy professor describes philosophical parallelisms between Brenin's behaviour and his reaction to the amusing and often destructive outcome as they grow and strengthen their bond through the years. I highly recommend this book. less
