review 1: OK I like Joyce, and yes I also have always liked Bryan Talbot’s artwork in Luther Arkwright and a range of 2000AD strips, so therefore something that combines the two of these likings I am almost bound to enjoy, and I did. In truth you probably just need one of those two elements (a fondness for Joyce, or an attraction to Talbot’s artwork), and Mary Talbot's life story is interesting enough in itself, to enjoy this book. My only minor quibbles are that is a little too short (which simply means I enjoyed it and wanted to enjoy more of the same) and it was perhaps a little too hard on Samuel Beckett.
review 2: A very interesting narrative: an autobiographical account of Mary Talbot's life as the daughter of one of the top James Joyce academics placed ag
... moreainst the life of Lucia Joyce, daughter of the famed author. They lived very different lives with some occasional similarities, and it's really how much they had in common in sort of off-center ways that really makes this story fascinating. They never met, and while Mary Talbot likely knew of Lucia from the time she was a young woman given her father's work, Lucia surely did not know of her. Their parallel lives are interesting to juxtapose, and the art by Bryan Talbot showcases an impressive ability to adjust his style and colors for two very different stories. There's never confusion about which woman you're reading about thanks to his excellent art work, and it's a story that has great heart and feeling to it. less

The graphics were great, but that was about it for me.

James and Nora were bad parents and drove Lucia mad.
