review 1: It was really fascinating. Firstly because it's non-fiction, secondly because of the strange circumstances that allowed these these two ladies to meet, and thirdly the interesting facts about what current life in Baghdad is really like. At times though, May was hard to understand, possibly because of cultural differences. She was desperate to leave Baghdad, but somehow apathetic about doing the work to get there. I couldn't understand her viewpoint or her though processes. Overall, it was a great recommendation from a friend that always manages to find unique intriguing books, and in the end it was really interesting to learn more about Iranian culture.
review 2: I got this book as a gift. And had never heard anything about it previously. I commend the two
... moreauthors for what they've accomplished both with the book and with their friendship. It's an important book. May Witwit's accounts of life in Iraq are riveting. The book is the actual exchange of emails back and forth between the two women. This structure works well- and gives us a "real time" feeling of suspense. Both women are good writers. less
