review 1: I recall thinking this book had some structural issues and perhaps could have been arranged better but I'd have to reread it to accurately comment on that. More importantly, I loved the sweetness of the story and the author's honesty. I'm a sucker for a food-related book or film and I really enjoyed the way she weaved in all the food related memories to her personal experiences. My favorite description was of the sweet tofu dish that her fiance made for her, her in-laws and her future sister and brother in law. She really captured the joyful way food can bring us together to enjoy such a simple pleasure. All in all, this book has a special place in my heart!

Though her diversions from her main story can occasionally be distracting in their length and subject, Maisto is elegant in showing the prominent place of food in our memories, our self-understanding, and our relationships.
