We meet so many people along the way that offer us a cup of tea and ask for nothing in return. They are just curious about us. We have no reference points at all. They’ve never seen Seinfeld, heard a Beatles song, and they don’t know who Donald Trump is. And there is really no way that we can begin to understand their way of life, what they do for fun, or what makes them tick. But in the end we’re all the same. We work hard, we like to smile, have a laugh, see our friends and our family, and have the capacity to be real assholes or treat each other with respect and kindness. In Burma I’ve only come across the kind and respectful people.
