review 1: 'nothing nice to say' was my first introduction into web-comics. it was recommended to me by a friend on the internet because of my budding interest in punk rock back when i was still in high school. just a few year shy of a decade and i'm still riveted. i still love it with as much passion as i did when i was a teenager. yet, i don't find this to be a collection of strips for the "old school" fan. it's as relevant today as it was originally and just as clever as all the web-comics out there.
review 2: I'm a sucker for the Descendents reference on the cover, so I had to buy and read this. All in all I found it pretty funny, a lot of the jokes are really inside jokes about punk, which made me feel like I'd taken a jump back ten years or so. I don't know if I f... moreind it comforting that for the most part the jokes are the same ones that were being made years ago, and that except for a couple of little comments like Lifetime and Kid Dynamite reforming almost all of the band references could have been as easily made years and years ago, but deep down I know that punk doesn't really change so this is to be expected (q: how many punks does it take to change a light bulb? a: None, punks can't change anything (sorry for the old joke), and for the record I didn't make this up, but I've used it at least twice before in my zine). This book could have been utter crap and I would have still loved it just because it has a drawing of Bob Vila on a Born Against T-shirt, and the line "More Jokes than the Causalities fan base". But it wasn't utter crap, but I'm not sure if you aren't versed in the rules of punk if you would get a lot of the jokes here. less
