review 1: Loved loved loved. This wonderful memoir of losing her father at the same time Kennedy was assassinated spoke to me so strongly, as a girl who felt different from everyone else around me because my father died. Beautifully written and poignant, a story quite different from my own (very Catholic family in a mill town in Maine as opposed to my Jewish Long Island upbringing) but so many shared emotions and experiences. High recommend it!
review 2: I picked this up after seeing Monica read from it a few weeks ago and am glad I did. It's a timely read as more mills in Maine announce their closures. I found this to be a touching tribute to the families (many of them immigrants) who came to Maine to better their lives and built communities of resilience, compassion... more and hope. Monica beautifully portrays the heartbreaking transitions for her immediate family and home town. less
