review 1: I adore Natalie Goldberg's books--they are always so inspiring to me. However, I've come to the conclusion that they are categorized wrong. They are always shelved in the "Writing How-To" section when they should probably be in the memoir section. That's what they read like. A memoir and that writing tips and tricks tossed in for good measure. Either way her books are amazing and if you think you might want to write or just want to know what the life of a Zen Writer might look like, then pick up these books. They are transformative regardless of how they are classified.
review 2: I'm not sure how to rate this one. On the surface it seems like a lot of unrelated vignettes with a few writing suggestions and exercises thrown in, but I suspect there is more going ... moreon under the surface. Goldberg isn't concerned with teaching structure or grammar, instead she focuses on opening the mind to write authentically and there is much value in that. I think this is one you have to return to periodically to gain the most value from. less
