review 1: Something else from the Kindle store that caught my eye for use as a palate-cleanser/relaxing read before bed. I don't know what draws me so much about non-fiction lately, but this was perfect for my purposes. It's a collection of questions submitted to New Scientist, and the responses sent in by subscribers, on a whole range of random questions, like whether spiders get thirsty and whether elephants sneeze. It's no good for finding out the answers to questions of your own, if you don't happen to share the questions asked by the readers of New Scientist; it's not like an encyclopedia in which information can be looked up. The questions are only loosely grouped together in sections. Still, very good for learning all sorts of random and interesting things.(Yes, spiders get th... moreirsty. Yes, elephants sneeze.)
review 2: Dip in and out at random, or read the whole thing straight through - this is another fascinating selection of scientific questions and answers from New Scientist magazine. Effectively written by the reader, books like this are only ever going to be as good as the quality of questions and answers themselves. Thanks to some very knowledgable and fluent contributors, this one's pretty good. It doesn't require heavy concentration, so sit back and let the facts wash over you - or buy it as a gift for someone else. It's that kind of book. less

A selection of the "last questions" from The New Scientist. Often humourous but always informative.

Some interesting info but not as thrilling or even interesting as I had hoped.
