review 1: Great read - well written, funny, interesting. I love memoirs. It's like getting to meet a new and interesting person without the hassle of actually having to talk to them :-) This was a very interesting memoir of a transgender person whose story doesn't follow the totally typical transgender narrative. If you like the book, check out more writing from the author and a few you tube videos on his web site - he seems very appealing and friendly. He's invited to my dinner party of interesting people I'd like to meet. Oh wait, i said that was too much of a hassle... :-)
review 2: An update on the Transsexual Story, but honestly the best parts for me were unrelated to this person's experience with gender. My favorite chapters come when Krieger is exploring a l... moreove relationship in the face of his newly minted tranny status. Those were by far the best written and the most relatable of any that he wrote (and I'm a tranny! so I ebbed and flowed relating to the more pertinent gender stuff too!) I think that Krieger attempts an honest exploration while also wanting to translate that experience for those not in the know. In that, I don't know if he's able to really satisfy anyone, and sometimes his reflections on (his) gender identity just come off as trite, hipster-elitist, and defensive. less
