review 1: I had never heard of six-word memoirs before I picked this book up but found it to be a fast-paced, very interesting look into the heads of the teens who submitted their memoirs to Smith magazine. The basic idea is that you write a six-word sentence that describes something about your life. It could be anything from what you had for breakfast to an issue that's defining your life. In the entries submitted, you see everything from "I never got my Hogwarts letter." to "Hung Myself. Sister found me. Alive." Some made me laugh, some made my heart hurt, but all of them were fun to read. Due to the entries being so short, it's a very quick read and I definitely recommend it if you like the YA genre!
review 2: This book both soothed my soul and broke my heart. It is a
... more jarring reminder of how much teens go through and how intelligent, tender, fierce, and remarkable they truly are. I found myself laughing and (literally) putting my hand to my heart by turns. If you liked the other "six-word memoir" books, definitely get this one. But be warned that somehow, coming from teens, these mini-biographies are more poignant than ones written by adults. less
