Sweet Farts
review 1: I read a quote recently. It went along the lines of: "There are two kinds of kids. Ones that read, and ones that read the wrong books." I couldn't agree more. I wasn't much of a reader growing up. It was really difficult for me to sit in one place for more than 20 minutes and focus on a bunch of words on a page. I didn't care for too many of the books I had to read for school. It wasn't until I was older that I discovered my love for reading. I regret that it didn't happen sooner. Reading this book would've helped me develop a love for reading, I think. I will definitely pass it on to nephews and my friends' children. Some highlights:"There is not much worse in this life than taking the blame for someone else's fart.""Maybe she can't face the fact that she married a smelly... more monster of a man."
review 2: I struggled throughout with the bullying in the book never being addressed by adults and even participated in by adults. I laughed several times at the protagonist's expense, which made me feel like I was participating in the bullying of the character myself. The wrap-up of the book came too quickly and lack satisfaction. The best thing about it was Keith's relationship with his little sister, and the fact that his mother insisted she never, ever passed gas. A solid 3* for being enjoyable enough that I cared that the kid was being bullied and for writing skills that made it easy to keep on going. less
