Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas
“She was fire, and light, and ash, and embers.”
Synopsis
Everyone Celaena Sardothien loves has been taken from her. But she’s at last returned to the empire—for vengeance, to rescue her once-glorious kingdom, and to confront the shadows of her past…
She has embraced her identity as Aelin Galathynius, Queen of Terrasen. But before she can reclaim her throne, she must fight.
She will fight for her cousin, a warrior prepared to die for her. She will fight for her friend, a young man trapped in an unspeakable prison. And she will fight for her people, enslaved to a brutal king and awaiting their lost queen’s triumphant return.
Review
Oh. My. Goodness. This book was phenomenal! There, I said it! This is by far, my favourite book in the Throne of Glass series. I literally devoured it because it’s that good.
I loved The Assassin’s Blade and Throne of Glass when I first read it! But the previous two books? Not as much. There were still great! But, I had a hard time following the plot. At that point, I didn’t really know if the plot was still there anymore. It was kind of like solving a puzzle that doesn’t go together. But this book! This book put everything back into place. Everything started to make sense again. If you have a hard time getting into this series, I get it. Read on, it will be so worth it!
If I could use one to describe this book, it would be “epic”! The book is slow for quite a while because it is a huge book after all. But things start to pick up once you reach part two of this book. There is a lot going on which I do want to talk a little bit about. There are minor spoilers ahead for the previous books and this one. Just a warning.
One thing I enjoyed seeing were things that happened in The Assassin’s Blade being mentioned in this book. Like Sam, for example. I loved Sam and it was nice to see him being mentioned again.
When I first read that Celaena was actually Aelin, Queen of Terrasen, I was a little unsure about it. I wanted the Celaena we have known for the past few books, not Aelin. But in this book, I learned to love Aelin. Aelin feels much more real and relatable and just as badass as Celaena was, maybe even more.
Rowan was another character I was unsure about. But just like Aelin, I have grown to love him in this book. I really like what he brings to this series and I am excited to see more of him as I continue with this series.
Also, loved seeing Aelin’s relationship with Aedionas they reconnect.Characters are a huge part as to why I love reading this series. That being said, this book is packed with amazing, amazing characters. I think that is all I have to say and this book.
Rating: 5/5 stars
