16-year-old Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on her favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. Dash, in a bad mood during the holidays, happens to be the first guy to pick up the notebook and rise to its challenges.
What follows is a whirlwind romance as Dash and Lily trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations all across New York City. But can their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions, or will their scavenger hunt end in a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?
I knew from other people talking about Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares, that the story would be a Christmas-y one. Just by reading the synopsis you could tell that Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares was a Christmastime story.
I was both excited and put off by reading Dash & Lily’s story. I was excited and nervous about reading this book for the same reason: it never seemed to be the right time. Well, I’m happy to day that I’ve finally read the book, and a plus is that I actually finished the book! I thought for some reason prior to reading Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares, that I would probably end up DNF’ing this book. I’m glad that I didn’t DNF it.
There are two points of view in this book. Dash & Lily have very two different thought processes’. Dash, in my opinion is more of a strategical thinker. While he may like surprises, he doesn’t like to live in the danger-zone of life. Dash is a word-nut and has his own charming values.
Lily on the other hand is a very upbeat person and is an incredibly pure soul for this day and age. I like that she looks for the good in people, even in dim situations. Lily is very authentic, and such a sweet girl.
Dash and Lily are complete opposite personalities. They fit each other perfectly.
Something that I was very undecided about was that by the halfway point of the book, Dash and Lily still hadn’t met, and I was incredibly worried about how they’d view the other. Just a little over the halfway point of my read through of Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares I was kind of distraught. I didn’t know how the book would end. I hoped that the story would end on a good note, since both of these characters deserve to be happy; not only as two separate characters, but together as well.
By the end of the book, I was extremely satisfied with how Dash & Lily’s story turned out. Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares turned out to be a very interesting read, featuring two very different points of view, and how people come together during the holiday season.
Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares is a great Christmastime read. I ended up giving their story 4 of 5 stars on GoodReads.
