review 1: I came to this book at just the right moment in my life to really appreciate it. The themes of procrastination, solitude, and literary appreciation came together perfectly for me, and I basically wanted to spend all my time reading it. I think I might have found the narrative voice more annoying if not for the fact that a friend had recommended this to me, so I kind of read it through the lens of his appreciation, which made me like it more. Also, I think he does get less annoying after a few chapters. I suspect that those who love poetry will either love or hate this book, but as someone who very much appreciate it but doesn't know much about it, I found it quite informative without always agreeing.
review 2: After several reminders from Good Reads that I was
... moreyet to finish reading this book, this morning I decided to stop procrastinating and get on with it. Much like the subject of the book really. Now I'm glad to have finished it so that I can move onto my next book. Apart from highlighting the uselessness of procrastination, this book has taught me a little bit about the mechanics of poetry, enough to make me realise that I don't really 'get' poetry. If I did, I probably would have appreciated the book's whimsical nature and lack of story more. less
