FOREVER AND A DAY. EPISODE 5
Officer 1: “abeg guy_umm officer! We dey waste time… Ask the necessary questions so I can carry on reshaping his destiny.”
He wraps his forearm around my throat and attempts to strangle me, whilst yelling into my ear.
Between choking and possible earing loss, I’m not sure which is worse at this point.
Officer 1: “Na jail you go die last last!”
Officer 2: “easy…there are protocols to be observed”
At this Officer 1 let’s go and begins to pace the room while I attempt to regain control of my breathing.
Officer 2: “did you kill your wife to cover up your infidelity?”
What?!
Evon was good but not that good!
Anthony: “no… I would never do that”
Officer 2: “even after you found out your mistress was pregnant and your wife wasn’t?”
I had hoped they werent privy to that information but…alas.
My guess is May probably knew also and to think that she’s dead and I may have killed her…
Tears begin to fill my eyes.
Anthony: “I…”
I clear my throat in the hopes that I don’t start wailing like a baby, it would only confirm that I am guilty.
Anthony: “It still isn’t sufficient reason to kill my wife sir”
Or is it?
Evon had called that fateful day_
Evon : “Hello”
Anthony: ” hey, how are you?”
Evon: “not fine…”
Anthony: “why what happened?”
Evon: “I missed my period…”
I lean back into my chair.
Anthony: “and?”
Evon: “and what else?! I’m pregnant…Almost two months gone”
Anthony: “how’s that possible?!”
Of course I know how… I just never thought of the possibility considering May and I have been trying for months now to no avail.
Evon: “what can of stupid question is that…did the baby materialize in my womb of its own accord?!”
Sigh.
Anthony: “what do you want to do about it? Or do you need time to think?”
Evon: “no need. I’ve thought about it and I want to keep it”
Anthony: “No! No no no no no! That is not even an option! I’m married!”
Evon: “calm down. It’s a very simple thing…marry me”
She’s kidding right?!
Rising to my feet.
Anthony: “come again?”
Evon: “Oh you have hearing problem now?! You have to marry me… I can’t abort this baby! I’m a Catholic by birth, you know it’s against our beliefs…neither can I raise a child by myself!”
Anthony: “and the best plan you could come up with is tearing my marriage apart?!”
Evon: “don’t yell at me! You should have thought about all these the day you decided to start cheating on your beloved wife!”
Anthony: “well maybe you shouldnt have slept with a married man! Listen carefully… You will abort that child and I pay for any inconveniences. Are we clear? !”
She remains mute for a few seconds and with an almost blood chilling calm_
Evon: “No. You listen to me…i will have this child and you will be a father to it and my husband. I’d advise you begin to make necessary preparations such as informing your lovely wife that we are expecting.”
She hung up and I remained with the phone to my ear for several seconds.
What have I gotten myself into?!
How do I tell May?
How will she react?
