Thoughts:
The book starts with Galen, Prince of the Triton Syrena (mermaids), who is walking on land looking for this mystery girl who can supposedly talk to sea creatures. Little does he know he doesn’t have to go too far because she literally walks right into him. He instantly feels the gravity pull to her not knowing why or how but also not knowing if she actually is a mermaid or something else entirely. Emma doesn’t know what to think when she meets this tall, tan, violet eyed look boy but she feels the connection as well, not knowing what it means and in time not understanding the level of her feelings that will grow for Galen. Taking her deep (literally and figuratively) into the waters of emotions, losing old friendships and making new ones, not mention love, and duty Galen finds himself in the worst position possible when not only has he found the girl who can talk to fish but must hand her over to his court. Leaving him not only torn between duty and love but doomed to watch his one and only true mate be with his brother, who needs to mate with her to unite kingdoms and become the next king.
My Review:
I feel like when it comes to books I either love them or find them ok. I’ve only ever hated one book and even when I reread it to see why other people liked it so much I realized how good it actually was. As it goes, I happened to love this book. Like really love it. Going into this completely blind with no spoilers whatsoever, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I couldn’t stop turning the pages. Mermaids or Syrena. Whatever you want to call it I’m courageously diving I head first into this fandom. This isn’t the first mermaid book that I’ve read but it’s by far my favorite. The terminology and structure of the book are what makes me curious about this author and her work. Banks ability to set up the story in way that keeps you captivated is surprisingly astounding.

I love Galen and Emma they are just amazing. I know how cheesy it is of me to say that about the main characters but it’s true, they are just the cutest. I love the idea of them because true mates as well. Along with these two comes a whole cast of friends. Emma’s friend dies and she come into this life head first, literally. She doesn’t know where she fits in at school with no friends or at home with her mother then out of nowhere comes Galen and his gang telling her she’s a mermaid and a lost princess at that. Toraf and Rayna, Galen’s best friend and sister, are a great addition to this humorous and thrilling tale. I definitely recommend this to anyone who likes fantasy with a side of romance.
