This is actually an old prompt that I didn’t get to complete in December, but still wanted to share with everyone. I actually didn’t read a whole lot in 2017, so that pickings where slim. I did my best with what I had, so let’s take a look.
Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard by Rick RiordanNaturally, I had to put this entire series on my favorites for 2017. It was wonderfully written with an all-star cast of characters that had me either laughing or crying until the end.I did do a series talk on this where I talk about what I loved about the series if you are interested in checking it out. Just be forewards there may be spoilers.
The Trials of Apollo Book 1 & 2 by Rick RiordanYes, another Riordan series, but what can I say this guy is amazing! While this one isn’t up there with the Magnus series, it was enjoyable and kept my attention to the end. Apollo is an amazing character to follow and if you haven’t check out this series yet I highly recommend it. I did do a review of the first book The Hidden Oracle when it first came out last year if you want to go see my thoughts on it.
How to be Bawse by Lilly SighnUsually, I am not one to read these kinds of Self-help/inspirational books, but Lilly is one of my favorite YouTubers so I knew that I had to give it a shot. I was not disappointed. I would definitely recommend getting the audiobook of this, even if you don’t listen to audiobooks. Lilly does the narration herself, and she definitely brings her own brand of humor to the recording.
The Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin HobbI read this pretty early on in the year and I was actually surprised by how much I liked it. It is a slow read, slower than I typically enjoy, but I still found myself fascinated with the mystery. Not only that but I enjoyed the voice of our main characters who also narrates the story. I felt sorry for all the crap he had to deal with growing up. All because his father decided to have a child with another woman.
Survive the Night by Danielle VegaThis one was pretty far down on my favorites list, but I knew I had to add it to this list anyway. Survive the night was a fun and easy read that I managed to finish all in one sitting. While it certainly isn’t anything groundbreaking, it held my attention and was perfect for killing a few hours.
What are some of your favorite reads of 2017? Leave your answer in the comment section below, and stay tuned for Friday! I will be posting my first flash fiction, The Dark Forest.
