review 1: In order to survive in concentration camps during WW2, Harry Haft became a boxer solely for the entertainment of SS officers. Based on the biography written by Haft's son, this story was told to Alan Scott Haft years after the events occurred. The father/son dynamic subtly runs under the entire story and gives it a tenderness as the reader imagines what it must have been like to grow up as the son of someone who lived through such a traumatic period and didn't speak about it for a long time afterwards. The black and white art fits the bleak mood and the ending scene is particularly poignant. Information about additional boxers during the same time period is also included in the back as a further reading supplement.
review 2: I loved this graphic Novel. It was v
... moreery well done and detailed. I love the story base on the Holocaust. Its a must-read if you like reading about the Holocaust. His name is Harry when he comes to America but his real name is Hertzko Haft and the only way to survive the camps is to become a boxer, so read this is find out what Harry accomplished in his life span of fighting to survive the camps and his life as a boxer. less
