review 1: Amazing man! Sir Richard Branson is a pure example of how capitalism system could be used to help those in need, and those who could(with their knowledge and innovative thinking) actually make the world we live in a better, and safer place. CO2 is a global problem now, and the sooner everyone realize it, the better. There is no time for standing by, and doing nothing - that ship is sailed. I am glad, knowing that there are people out there, who actually care. People who give huge amounts of resources for a causes, that affects us all as a human race. Bow down!
review 2: Its too bad that the people who really need to read this, most often than not don't. The lessons about listening to the staff is something that management at all levels should put into practice
... more. Here, we have an entrepreneur, who is a billionaire and is emphatic to the staff, and on the other hand we have salaried management, who behaves like the company belongs to his father. There is much to admire about Branson, and I have been a fan of his world view, although not all of it, since reading his book 'Screw it, Lets do it'. His willingness to admit his mistakes, to the public, makes him so human thus not an angel. We cannot emulate angels, only humans. Which is why he could be a good role model; pick and chose the values you want. As for the book, this is the first so called business book I finish in less than a week. There are many carcasses of unfinished busines books strewn all over my library begging to be finished, yet this 330 pages book caught my attention. It is an easy read, Branson just takes you in your hand and lead you through his experiences. There are 7 main topics, in addition to the introduction and epilogue at the back. Branson focuses first on the subject of people and then brand, delivery and learning from mistakes, innovation, entrepreneurs and social responsibility.I could absolutely relate to the topic on people but could have fallen off the chapter on social responsibility. Branson thinks big, because he has the money. So the talk about Gaia, HIV care, about investing the profits of his carbon emitting business to ensure sustainability got hit out of the ball park. Creation of the elders also had me go, nyeeeeehh... I am not sure if these are just the flavours of the day back in 2008, I certainly have not heard much about the council of Elders, here in 2013.There were many references to Google and Apple and Steve Jobs, who is now in 2013, of course, no more. less
