review 1: A very playful and nice read. It was pleasantly surprising to see how Rishi extracted humour out of a very sober affair that flying is. This definitely should be included in backseat pouches on all flights. The humour is not out and out witty - but is definitely worth a chuckle and simply makes one take up a flight again just to relive the charmingly amusing moments which Rishi has written about his flying experiences. I am definitely gonna refer this for trying out something funny, the next time I am onboard cuz I know that will surely be a 'happy flight'. :)
review 2: In a world where of late planes go missing, are shot down, get hit by angry birds (who obviously seem to be resentful at man’s attempts to invade their space) or are occasionally plagued by ri
... moresky landings and sleepyheads at the cockpit, air travel can seem fraught with risk. Yet it is a pleasure for some and a hassle for others. No one who has ever travelled by air (and also on alternate modes like train, bus etc) can deny that air travel and its attendant activities are unlike any other. Cross the boundary that separates the outside world from the terminal and you enter a different world altogether. The other-worldly journey that begins from here until you are back into the world as you know it ( which could range from a few hours to a day) is the subject of Mr. Pipariya’s keen eye and acerbic irreverent wit. Mr. Pipariya revels in taking merry pot-shots at all aspects of air travel-check-in agents, cabin crew, co-passengers in business and economy classes, baggage handling, airline food -, and in cheekily proposing hilarious workarounds and solutions to survive the new ecosystem. Among other things funny, his ten point checklist of ‘life-saving ‘items to pack and carry aboard and appropriate instances when they should be deployed makes it a rollicking read. Everyone who has ever boarded an aeroplane will be able to relate to Mr. Pipariya’s astute observations though some may find his sense of humour off-putting. Still, for those who believe in the lighter side of things this one will keep an amused smile on your face all the way through. Smart airlines could increase market-share by planting extracts of this book as in-flight reading material over the glossy travel magazines that are usually on offer. less
