review 1: I grabbed this book as the first thing that looked even remotely interesting while Mini-Me was fussing. Considering I had very little to no interest in JFK Jr., this ended up being a surprisingly good read. When I was a kid I often fantasized about being best friends with famous people - it had to be more interesting than my life. And RoseMarie Terenzio's life was indeed interesting while she was JFK's assistant. I never considered the level of stress that might be involved with such a position, though.A generally fascinating story, though it got bogged down a bit as the author dealt with the aftermath of the deaths of JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.The only major issue I had with this version was the production quality. The audio is kind of painful - sounds like she'... mores reading it in a bathroom or something. Very echo-y. Also could have sworn I heard rustling pages in the background at least once. There were also four or five places where a line was repeated word-for-word. Very jarring.
review 2: Really, I think I'd give this book 3.5 stars. It's surprisingly well-written for a book of this kind. I thought the details of the writer's job as a personal assistant were fascinating all by themselves; even more fascinating was the inside look into the lives of JFK Jr and Carolyn Bessette. I do think there's some PR at work here (the writer owns a PR form, and owes her career to JFK Jr, so how could there not be?) because at times both John and Carolyn are given way too flattering portrayals. That said, I believed in both Terenzio's love and affection for the couple and in her closeness to them. All in all, a great lazy afternoon read for a Kennedy family fan. less
