review 1: This is such an important book. Not Important like Ulysses is said to be, but actually important like it can change actual lives. If you have children, or are thinking of having children, or know anyone that falls in those categories, read this book. Seriously. This is not hyperbole.I found the book eye opening and disheartening and engaging. In my lethargy, I thought that things were OK environmentally, or at least not getting worse. That's not the case at all.So, once again, read this book.
review 2: This book was a bit heavy for bedtime reading, which is all I have time for these days. Steingraber seems like an intense person, but I am glad there are folks like her out there. She definitely knows her environmental science and ecology so it's hard to argue
... morewith her perspective. One of the things I appreciated most about the book was her overall argument that parents as individuals should not have to be watchdogs over the toxins that their children come into contact with - it's an impossible job - instead we need strong regulation that prevents chemical exposures to begin with. less
