review 1: This book was an amazing story that opens your eyes. I have interviewed abused women, and some who were raped, forced into slavery on my radio program and find that people still like to believe this does not happen. Human trafficking! Today? That all are there in prostitution because they want to be. People from Netherlands who do not believe this story, yet have not read it and can comment that the officials were involved? Ha.."That is impossible" and that it is all a choice, as they were told to believe. Its income for the government, and sure helps tourism.Yet, they can stop and gawk at those behind the glass without questioning are you really ok? Then again who can these girls trust??
review 2: Some people questions the validity of the author's experiences
... morein this book.. Whether this is authentic or not, I still find the whole experience an eye-opener for me. Before I came across this book, I am well aware of the ongoing problem in Human/Sexual Trafficking because this actually happens in my country. I live in a third world country and it pains me to learn that this type of trafficking is not regarded by our leaders as an "alarming" problem. After all, poverty and corruption is our "main" thing here, the rest is secondary. There may be an exaggeration made on this book, but I couldn't discount the fact that she had been a victim of abuse and torture for so many years, psychologically, her memory might have been affected, which happens to most people who have been abused that's why I'm more forgiving to the entire story.*I have watched a documentary regarding sex trafficking in the past, and it made me research even further if these really happens. Snuff for example, remains an underground thing, a "priviledge" to those sick people who caters to these type of abuse. It's not just an urban legend and there's really a market for this. It's just so sickening and inhuman and selfish, I don't even know if they're still human. Maybe an animal in a form of a human flesh. less
