review 1: This was one of our office book club reads, maybe the last one before I left, but anyway one that I started and really enjoyed. So I decided to finish it, mostly because I enjoyed the author's style, but also because I liked what the book had to say. And I am in the middle of a WordPress A to Z workshop series with the Editorial Freelancers Association, so it seemed somehow appropriate for that reason, too. I ended up liking this author so much, I am considering reading some of his other books, which is quite an endorsement, when you consider the number of books already on my to-read list, and the fact that I hope/plan to go back to reading books for a living before too long. Here's a quote from the end of the book that may explain why I would like this author:"...companie... mores like Automattic are returning work to its roots. It's not a new, radical idea for work to have meaning and for workers to have both great freedom and pride in the work itself. Instead those ideas are rooted in the origins of work; we've just lost our way."
review 2: If you have any interest in how software products get created, teams can work remotely, or WordPress itself then read this book. It's a wonderful look at the company and processes behind WordPress and the way in which software products are built. It never delves into hard core tech, and is littered with personal stories from the people involved, yet at the end of the book you have a really good understanding of the team structure and management style needed for a completely distributed workplace.I have always thought working remotely only really suited a narrow range of "loner" jobs. After reading this I'm more inclined to think many more businesses could benefit from allowing more of their workforce to work remotely. less

Good for me to read since I work for a company that has most of its US based employees work remote.
