review 1: This book was interesting and easy to read. I appreciated Ellis' relentless determination to learn about wolves and his desire to save them from man's encroachment. His methods are unorthodox, to say the least. He is more attuned to wolves than humans and that is one of the reasons I didn't give the book a higher rating. He marries and has children, but is away from his family so much that he can't be a good husband and father. He puts his third wife in a dangerous situation where she could have been killed. I did enjoy reading about his childhood and his time with the wolves in Idaho, but thought the latter part of the book was less interesting. This was a good book group selection as it generated a lot of discussion.
review 2: Really interesting and wo... morenderful read, some of the things this man has done seem crazy and insane but he has made a connection with the wild and with wolves that I could only ever dream of and I think the kind of understanding and respect for nature that he has is something we could all do with having a little more of in our lives. Fascinating story. He sacrificed a lot ultimately for his work and I think this is as much a journey of personal discovery as it is a study of wolves and their behaviour. Like he says in the book, we could learn a lot about loyalty and family structure from wolves. less
