review 1: If you are interested in learning more about the beginnings of crab fishing in Alaska and/or the Hansen family from Discovery's Deadliest Catch add this book to your reading list. Sig goes through the story of how his father, Sverre, immigrated to the United States from Norway and created a life for him and his family fishing. You learn more about Sig's brothers, Edgar and Norman, other members of the past and present crew of the F/V Northwestern, and a better understanding of the crab industry. As a Deadliest Catch junkie I found this book absolutely fascinating and have moved on to the Hillstrand's book.
review 2: This book was a lot different than the book written by his "Catch" costars, the Hillstrand brothers. North by Northwestern focused a lot more o
... moren his family's history as Norse fishermen. Didn't think I would enjoy it because I really bought it to read more stories about them on their ship, the Northwestern, and I wasn't too happy when I realized there was very little of that. I did come to enjoy the book as I got a few chapters in. I really did enjoy the book. less
