review 1: In ye days of olde before tumblr, Special Snowflakes collected quirky regalia, tragedy, and an inflated sense of ~uniqueness~. You'd think adult retrospect would fix this, but no, this particular adult is even more convinced of her teen precocity. You liked Bonjour Tristesse??? Lady Brett Ashley??? So acutely aware, so ~special. Three stars simply because the author and I share interests, not indicative of an objective appraisal.
review 2: I'm sorry to be so stingy with stars, but I'm using them literally. I did not like this book. I understand that others had the benefit of a "beautiful" production, but I read this on Kindle so the footnotes were supremely annoying and the pictures were fuzzy. I felt like this was in the vein of memoir where in capturing the v
... moreoice of adolescent angst, the text becomes as annoying as we all were in adolescence. The book lacks reflection, save for a few sentences of off-hand apology to the parents. And the sideways references to mental illness would have been more effectively addressed head-on. less
