review 1: The subject matter was fascinating, and the first few chapters were engrossing. After that, though, it becomes a boring and often repetitive account of a fairly typical life (punctuated by periods of "lightning strike" episodes of blacking out and headaches). Oh, and lots of teaching aerobics classes. There were aspects of the author's story that could have been explored more deeply, and other bits that should have been shortened or left out altogether. A more experienced/talented co-author could have really helped her bring her incredible story to life, I think. As it was, I started out hopeful but quickly became bogged down by poor writing and endless repetition.
review 2: Su Meck's complex tale of a traumatic brain injury re-shaping her life beyond recogniti
... moreon at the age of 22. No one truly knows or understands her from that point forward -- least of all herself. Most frustrating: her doctors and even her family don't understand the depth of her difficulties. Most heartwarming: her small children do their best to help take care of her. There are triumphant and disturbing aspects to her story, which is a sort of hologram comprised of many people's memories standing in for her own. less
