review 1: Muffins and Mayhem was a fun book to read, nice and light-hearted. I had just read a very sad biography, so I wanted to read something less heavy, and it turned out this was a biography too. While it was fun, it wasn't necessarily memorable. The author of the book runs an online book club and writes blog posts, and that was what the book mostly ended up feeling like. She shares lots of funny stories and even recipes throughout. It was a quick and fun read, not one that I would recommend to others per se, but it was fun nonetheless.
review 2: I've been a member of DearReader.com reading groups for years. What a clever idea, provide just a few minutes' worth of reading each day, allowing us to sample a book from the genre of our choice, then if we like the charac

I enjoy the heart-warming slice-of-life anecdote preceding each DearReader book excerpt, that gives a personal touch from Suzanne each day (or guest authors when she's on vacation). Her signature sign-off, "Thanks for reading with me. It's so good to read with friends." always lifts my spirit. I was so certain a book full of Suzanne's stories would be even more wonderful than her daily messages, that I even gave the book as a Christmas gift before I'd had the chance to read a copy myself. Finally reading the book this week, I was disappointed. The book's chapters are longer than the DearReader notes, and somehow that makes a big difference in the feeling they inspire. Perhaps when Suzanne writes her daily notes for DearReader, she is in a different mood than the way she felt when she wrote her book chapters. I can't always read DearReader email on the day it is sent, but I save to enjoy later. However non-urgent email can pile up, and it may be a different season by the time I read my backlog, so I missed out many times on the recipe links other readers raved about. I had looked forward to "catching up" on her recipes in the book, but again was disappointed. I didn't see any I would like to make; her famous chocolate chip cookie recipe looks just like the one I use.I am an avid fan of DearReader, subscribe to multiple genres/books per week, and I still look forward to reading Suzanne's personal notes. I am unlikely to buy another book by Suzanne, prefer the style she serves in her small "bites" (puns intended). less

It was ponderous. Visually as well in the extremely small print. I was looking for a lighted book.
