review 1: This was definitely a captivating book that explores the life of Tamara Mellon - the model for future women entrepreneurs. I've always had a passion for fashion and throughout this whole book, she talks about her ex-company, Jimmy Choo. There were plenty of obstacles along the road, yet she managed to overcome and conquer those times of trouble. Although she will always have a tainted memory of her childhood and of her mother, however, that's the way things are. No one has a perfect life, she may seem to be glamorous on Vogue magazine or at a iconic party, but when we dig deeper into her days, we realize that we are lucky. She had to fight jet lag 24/7, she had to go to court against her mother, and she even had to resign from her own company. This is a good ... moreread.
review 2: Fascinating story. Building a brand is something else. But also building a brand with private equity is a recipe for disaster . Best review for me is just quoting the author:" I think their (private equity) brand of short-term thinking and exclusive focus on financials is a huge part of what's wrong with so much of the economy. You can't have sustainable growth and real innovation when NO ONE CARES what they are actually producing or about the people who produce it. The private equity mind-set is just as delusional as my mother's because, like hers,it insists on redefining the world to suit its pathology. With it there is never an open dialogue between crative and financial. The exchange is always about dominance,ego and control."I totally agree on her observations. less
