review 1: This book feels so truthful and is written with so much heart, even though the author notes that the patients are fictional. If you really want to know the incredible challenge of becoming a clinical psychologist, working with a supervisor who is at once infuriating, challenging and the perfect catalyst to challenge you on your own judgements, bullshit and insecurities while compassionately helping you grow this book is essential reading. The process of case formulation, uncovering the patient's narrative is beautifully described. This book will stay with me for a long time, and I will recommend it to my students, or anyone who wants to know what it feels like to be a clinical psychologist.
review 2: I'd say 4.5 stars. I thought this was a very eye-opening acco
... moreunt to a side of psychology we seldom hear about. Usually books are about the patients, the illness, not those who try to "cure" them or help them get to a better place.Like Byron indicated, there is no line between sanity and insanity and/or the boarders are far less distinct than we make them out to be. I loved this book because it de-stigmatizes mental illness by showing us how human we all are and it made me think about "one's journey from chaos to clarity" and see it in a different way, somehow. less
