review 1: This is a book full of great information. A must read for pet parents that want to learn more about how to go about taking care of of their furry children. The author, Ted Kerasote, really made me think about my canine companions' diet, exercise, vaccines, etc., Kerasote conducted extensive research that included talking to vets from different fields, shelter managers and workers, pet food company managers etc., in order for the reader, you, to have as much information as possible and make a better and more informed decision about our furry kids.
review 2: After my let down when I read "Merle's Door", I was a bit dubious of this book. The title had me at "longer-lived dogs", but I had such high expectations when I read "Merle's Door", I was wondering if this
... morebook would follow suit and leave me a little disappointed (I found Merles door a great story but didn't like all anthropological venturing)Happily I opted to give it a chance. I'm an avid dog lover and I feel that there is lots we can do to prolong our canine's lives. I was very intrigued by the chapter that discusses alternative spay techniques something I'd never heard of. I can't help but wonder why some of these techniques aren't in daily practice.Ted does incorporate a lot of research and studies in to "Pukka's Promise" but he tells the tale in a more interesting manner than in "Merle's Door". And Pukka? Who couldn't love Pukka? I found it heart warming that Ted spent so much time in search of the perfect puppy and then love him for putting so much effort and research into learning how to keep that puppy alive for as long as possible, and then sharing all of this information with his readers.Thank-you Ted, this is a GREAT BOOK. less
