review 1: People love comparing this book to Jeannette Walls' memoir, and that's just sad. While MoL is engaging, it isn't anything like The Glass Castle. It's a good story, but I tired of the author's apathy (the paragraph where she talks about her father killing himself with a shotgun basically did me in). I think it just really needed some editorial hand holding. When you're in the position to speak from the experience of living with someone who had clear issues with depression, behavioral disorders, and dependence issues, you really have to take a closer look into their situation before baring the whole story to the world.
review 2: Amazing story of a dysfunctional family with a mother that probably should never have been allowed to leave the hospital with any of th... moree 7 children she gave birth to. Despite that the kids grow up loving and supporting each other with a fierce loyalty that is very inspiring. Similar to Glass Castles with immature parents and too mature kids it really makes you appreciate your own dysfunctional family! less
