review 1: So why would a guy who describes himself as ""manly" in the sort of way that Isaac Mizrahi is manly" move to Michigan countryside and try to emulate Thoreau and Walden Pond? Forty hit and Rouse realized that he wasn't following his dream of being a writer. Raised in the Ozark woods he left as fast as he could but still remembers his grandmother reading "Walden" to him while he was growing up and talking about how Thoreau had gotten it right. In this hilarous memoir, Rouse sets out the 10 lessons from Walden that he hopes to learn. Let's just say that he's a city slicker and has a lot to learn! Would you try to scare off the racoon on top of your garbage can with breath spray and lip balm? Lots of giggles as well as things to think about.
review 2: I really enjo
... moreyed this memoir from Wade. This was closer to his first memoir American Boy. In this book he and Gary move to Michigan where he can write and Gary is able to transfer with his job in sales. I really enjoy Wade's writing style. His stories are humorous and his writing of his various adventures puts you right there with him. I don't always relate to Wade's point of view, but I always enjoy the ride. If you liked American Boy or are looking for a few laughs I recommend this. less

Humorous but quite meandering. I enjoyed the writing but wasn't very motivated to get through it.
