Book Review: Splintered by A.G. Howard

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“No one knows what he or she is capable of until things are at their darkest.”-A.G. Howard, Splintered

Let me just say this.. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book. Without a doubt. I am seriously obsessed.

Anything Wonderland I am all about. But the idea for the darker Wonderland drew me in from the very beginning. Alyssa, her mother, and the rest of Alice’s descendants are considered crazy. In order to save her mother she must go to Wonderland. Madness at its best.

You crave chaos. You’re happiest when the world is in an uproar. You thrive on madness. Even your magic is at its best when it’s the catalyst to confusion. You still can’t admit this?

Not only the writing for the darker Wonderland is great but the romance. There is a huge love triangle. Normally I will pick one guy I am rooting for from the beginning and get bored with the other. It was not that way this time. They both are gorgeous but total opposites.

He’s a contradiction: taut magic coiled to strike, gentleness at war with severity, a tongue as sharp as a whip’s edge, yet skin so soft he could be swathes in clouds.
In the end it was Morpheus who won my affections.

“I hate you.””Only because of the way I make you feel.” My fingernails eat into my palms. “Only because you bring out the worst in me.””Oh no, luv. I bring out the life in you.”

He just has a way with words like I have never experienced.

“I hate you.” I say, the sentiment muffles against his heart, hoping to make it true. “And I love you,” he answers without hesitation, voice resolved and raw as he holds me tighter so I can’t break away and react. “A crossroads, my beautiful princess, that was unavoidable-given our situations.”

I mean gosh!! Oh, my heart.

“Why would I want you?” He lifts three fingers to countdown. “Mysterious. Rebellious. Troubled. All those qualities women find irresistible.”
So very true Morpheus. So very true.

But then I go back to Jeb because he would rip his heart out for her. They just found out their feelings for each other during this journey. It really is cute. And lets face it, Morpheus seems to have some dark motives.

Why? Why?

Tearing down the rest of the world won’t make you happy. Look inside yourself. Because finding who you were meant to be? What you were put into this world to do? That’s what fills the emptiness. It’s the only thing that can.

Will it be Wonderland or the mortal world you choose Alyssa?

If you like Wonderland, Gothic boys, prince charming, love triangles, and a little bit of madness, you will adore this series.
