review 1: I wasn't impressed with the first few pages, but then the book caught its rhythm. A 5 month old puppy was tied to a railroad track and run over by a train. He ultimately winds up with a family with a son with a rare genetic disorder that makes his muscle stay contracted. The boy, Little B is shy and doesn't look up when he goes out because people stare at him. Enter Haatchi the disabled dog and the two find their life partners in each other. Many travails await them. Their dad and step-mom are these inspiring people who raise money for health expenses and if they take in more than they need, donated it to charity. Lots of places to cry. A very inspiring book of resilience.
review 2: A great nonfiction read about a dog who was cruelly beaten and chained to railr
... moreoad tracks and run over. He is rescued and as a five month old Anatolian Shepherd is able to survive the trauma of losing a back leg and tail and saving Owen’s (Little B) life. Haatchi is such a wonderful dog, he changes many who come in contact with him. This is a compelling, inspiring read. Highly recommended.Quotes I loved in this bookp. 98 "There is something about Haatchi that makes people do wonderful things," Colleen said. 'Everyone wants to make it up to him for what happened. Having witnessed the worst of humanity, he seems to bring out the best.'p.101 Sara has painted hundreds of dogs in her career, but, like so many other people, she felt she had never met one quite like Haatchi. 'it is as if he is a human in a dog's body,' she said. 'he just seems to understand everything.'p. 116Head high and with his inscrutable smile, Owen told the cameras:'I used to be scared of strangers, then Haatchi came along and now I am not. I didn't really meet any others with disabilities and felt like the odd one out, which made me really sad. But then I saw Haatchi and I saw how strong he was, even though he only had three legs. I became stronger myself. I love him so much.' less
