review 1: I was almost done with my review when I touched some part of the screen of the iPad by mistake and made it disappear. Rather than attempt to recreate what I had written, I will simply complete the thought I was writing when I lost my screen: I loved the fact that the author admitted she often wanted to say, "stop reading this and go read the book" but the fact is that her book is so good, I was happy to put off reading the original while enjoying her thoughts on it. In fact, I am not sure I want to read some of the books under discussion, but still very much enjoyed her thoughts about them. In other cases, I am glad to add titles she discusses to my reading list, further reason to love this book. In short, a highly recommended good read!
review 2: Wendy Lesser
... morewrote a nice book on writing, literary pursuits that everyone can appreciate. She created a place and atmosphere that made me want to read Henry James and not want to read Dostoyevsky. I always feel guilty about not spending much time with old Fyodor but Lesser helped me get over that. I also have zero desire to go back to the Greek plays and even Edith Wharton is a ho hum. So all in all, enjoy reading - whoever it is and wherever it takes you. A good book for people who neither majored in English Lit or are professional writers. less

Got to p48. Had to stop because the author was spoiling too many books for me.
