review 1: After reading and thoroughly enjoying Heat Moon's previous books, I found Quoz to be a huge disappointment. It didn't pass my 100 page test, and it went back on the shelf. The author's penchant for using extended vocabulary was a bit too much. It seemed somewhat like a vocabulary exercise. On this journey Heat Moon took his wife. Together they shared their impressions. Perhaps he should have traveled alone since the duality seemed to create a cross current that muddled the narrative.

... moreded Heat-Moon's books for some time and I can see why. There is a great mixture of history, humor, and and quirky characters that make this a wonderful read. Not only do I want to travel the ICW (google it), but I would love to journey along abandoned railroads on a rail bike. I recommend this book to anyone who feels the call of the open road. less
