review 1: Took me a couple weeks to finish--which is rare for me. The beginning was great, minus the obvious criticism of swearing on the heavy side. The middle lagged and the end felt like it would never come. The humor got old half way through... mostly it was made up of small rants, soapboxes or demeaning descriptives that didn't add to the plot. The author is everyone's advocate and yet nobody's. Lots of repetition, so I'm thinking the book could have been more effective at half the length. It put the term ANALize to good use. I just finished it five minutes ago, and it left me writing a looooooong, blah blah blah review, so that's a pretty good indicator for me of the energy with which one closes the cover on this one.
review 2: #15 - For a true tree hugger, this wa
... mores a very sober account of the different perspectives of the fate of the polar bears. Unger truly analyzed it from as many angles that can be conjectured fully understanding the need to protect endangered species but appreciating the exploitation of an unknown future for polar bears to ensure job security and notariety between scientists and activists. He moved his famiy to Churchill, a town known for having polar bears stroll down the street like it's meant for them, to get a better understanding of the tourist trade surrounding these large beasts and the locals perspectives of evidence of their ruination and global warming in their arctic splendor. The only real negatives with this book is author's tendancy to repeat his intent too frequently, overly flowery language, and his constant use of the term 'Heavy Hitters' for the specialist in the polar bear field. Her also has some weird man crush on Steven Amstrup. less

The first half was great, but then the rest was not as interesting and somewhat repetitive.
