review 1: The open, frank, honest narrative mirrored Zelda's interviews, which prompted me to buy her book. I waited for the audible version - and whilst Zelda applauded the narrator, I found that the narrators inability to pronounce Afrikaans words like Rooi Rose and an inauthentic accent jarred for most of the narrative. I would have preferred Zelda as the narrator. Nevertheless, I was touched by Zelda,s journey - her innocence, her naïveté and above all her loyal, unwavering devotion as the referent power she enjoyed eroded with the aging of Mr Mandela. The way 'they' (Zelda and Mr Mandela) were discarded as their usefulness diminished left me feeling disgusted and enraged. I felt that this book was finalized in something of a raw 'draft' form, whilst Zelda remained traumatize... mored by the horror of the events that unfolded from the time that she was unceremoniously dumped by the family and politicians when Mr Mandela could no longer shield and protect her. In the early part if the book she referred to her changing views and perspectives - shaped by her positive experiences in her service to Mr Mandela. I would like Zelda to present us with the post 'post -trauma' version of her life with Mr Mandela when she has had the opportunity to think through, process and recover from the sheer horror of the declining years. How she - and others who benefitted from / were burnt by the largesse of Mr Mandela build / preserve / abandon 'the legacy' will offer interesting material for Good Night Mr Mandela. I hope she keeps writing! I'd like to pre-order that book right away....
review 2: A personal and intimate account of life next to one of the greatest human beings that existed. Such a wonderful book to read, made me laugh, made me smile, I relived so many moments of our history and had me in tears constantly during the last few pages. It provides a positive perspective on politics and a man who spent the last years of his life to bring people together. I also enjoyed her honesty about people who were not as accommodating during the time. Well done dear Zelda, I hope you make lots of money from this book, you have given your life to serve your hero, and you truly deserve to be rewarded properly. less
