review 1: Playful and fun - pokes fun at the book world, authors, editors, publishers, etc. But you needn't understand that world to be amused by the humor in this book. Besides, it's a twisty mystery with some action and a love story or two. What's not to like? Oh, one tip, read the glossary at the end before you read the novel. Don't let this tip scare you off, it's a glossary of slang not a glossary of cumbersome, foreign, previously unknown or archaic words.
review 2: A funny, clever skewering of the publishing world. I liked the caper-meets-satire form and the ridiculous personalities (e.g., the Vanilla Ice/James Frey memoirist who gets dubiously launched into fame). ... morell pitch perfect. Also appreciated the (fearless) decision to invent literary-inspired words and casually toss them into the book (like "franzens" for trendy glasses or "vonneguts" for cigarettes), complete with glossary at the end. The most clever part of this book to me was its self-reflexivity--the book that gets described is the book that you're reading. But this is done with a light hand, so it never becomes annoying. Am now curious to read more by him. less

Feels like I stole this book. $1 for a satire about the publishing biz. Priceless? I shall soon see.
